Every once in a while life reminds you that dreams don’t have an expiration date.
And right now one of mine involves an island, a group of strangers, and a million-dollar prize.
For everyone rooting for me to make it onto Survivor, I wanted to give a quick update.
Training is going well.
Now before anyone starts saying, “Donnie finally started working out,” let me clear something up…
I’ve already been working out.
This isn’t day one.
This is just the proof.
A Night of Laughs and a Reminder
Last night I went to see Larry the Cable Guy perform at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.
If you’ve ever been to one of his shows, you know exactly what I mean when I say the entire room was laughing from the first joke to the last.
But somewhere between the laughter and the stories, a little voice popped into my head.
It said:
“Boy… if you want to make it on Survivor you better get your fat ass in the pool.”
And just like that, my next workout was decided.
Laps Toward a Dream
So here I am the next day.
Swimming laps.
Now if you happen to be at the Hard Rock and see a guy in the pool swimming like he’s being chased by a shark…
Don’t worry.
It’s just me training for Fiji.
One of the things people sometimes forget about training for Survivor is that it’s not just about strategy and social skills. The game is physically demanding. Players are swimming, climbing, crawling through obstacles, and pushing their bodies in ways they might not normally do.
So if there’s a pool nearby, you might as well use it.
Every lap is another step toward being ready if the call ever comes.
Why I Train
Some people train for marathons.
Some people train for competitions.
Right now I’m training for a chance.
A chance to stand on that beach, look around at the other castaways, and hear Jeff Probst say those famous words:
“Welcome to Survivor.”
And if that moment ever happens, I want to know I did everything I could to be ready.
Not just mentally.
Physically too.
Hard Rock Tulsa
The truth is the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa has become a pretty good place to mix a little fun with a little preparation.
Between the shows, the restaurants, the poker room, and the pool, it’s easy to spend some time there enjoying life.
If you haven’t been out there lately, you should check it out:
Just don’t be surprised if you see someone doing laps like their life depends on it.
Never Too Late
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that dreams don’t care how old you are.
They just care whether you’re willing to chase them.
So for now, the training continues.
More workouts.
More preparation.
More laps.
Because somewhere out there is an island waiting for its next castaway.
And I plan on being ready.
Final Thought
Now if you’ll excuse me…
I’ve got laps to swim and a million-dollar dream to chase.
